Mercure Cardiff Holland House Hotel & Spa ★★★★

Large room, huge bed that was very comfy. We were on floor 11 so had great views of the city. Shower was lovely, looked brand new. Staff very helpful in ordering a taxi for us, that turned up on time. At breakfast, actually had a toaster that toasted bread properly, and didn't either burn to a crisp or you had to feed through 3 times to get any colour. Well done Mercure!

There were a couple of lifts out of action, so did take a bit longer, having said that it took seconds to get from floor 1 to floor 11. Room was a little chilly when we arrived but when we put the two heater on it was ok. Breakfast was good except they don't do mushrooms apparently with the cooked breakfast, and if you wanted a boiled or fried egg, you had to order separately, which meant waiting and your food going cold. Overall though plenty of choice with fruit cereals, croissants etc.

We (two adults one toddler) had a nice big room with a view of the city. my son had room to run around and was entertained by the trains. The gym and swimming pool meant we had things to do on rainy days. They provided vegan options at breakfast upon request, which I appreciated. the hotel was a short walk to the city centre (about 10 minutes) which meant it was quiet. Great soundproofing too.

The taps were rather weak. Parking was expensive at £20 and inconvenient because not reservable.

Lovely location

The telephone was broken and the tv didn’t work well, there was a group of boys in the pool who were rude and loud yet the staff did nothing despite being told

Front of house staff were great Cleaner for our room was lovely and did a great job. Showers were powerful and hot with a huge deep bath.

Barman in evening for an event in the function room was rude, abrupt and slammed drinks down. TV didn't work Twin room with smallest single beds could do with using 2 doubles as the room was big enough

Central to needs, staff very polite pleasant and answered all questions

My visit was quick so no time to use facilities would like option to exclude these for a discount as other hotels in area much cheaper but rooms as good so will opt to use them going forward unless I have time to use the spa facilities

The location

The room was a bit dated

The spa facilities were great, the room was a generous size, no issues with hearing other rooms even with an event on the Saturday night Benefit of a shower and a bath! Good view from the window Sockets close was a handy Location was great, close to all amenities Staff were very friendly Plenty of lifts to all floors Parking if available on site was very convenient The steam room and sauna were lovely and hot Swimming pool was very nice

The room heater didn't seem produce any heat One side of the bed the springs had gone and wasn't great to sleep on compared to the other sjde No extractor fan in the bathroom at least if there was it wasn't very efficient clearing steam Received contradicting information from reception with which made planning difficult Room was nice but needed some attention (cracked sink) TV was a bit dated but worked fine The spa showers in the men's and womens could do with more maintenance. Shower heads and cubicle door locks were broken also womens didn't have a swimsuit dryer unlike the mens which was a shame Spotlights in the room made it quite dark

Outside of the hotel looked nice

Jacuzzi was out of order, carpets grubby, toilet seat lid in my room broken, lock on bathroom door broken. Bar not open until late

Breakfast was better than other hotels I’ve stayed in.

Poor pressure in the shower. Car park was hard to find, not enough guidance with signage. Poor car park, very narrow, at risk of damaging car but I do understand that this can’t be rectified. In regards to this the price of the car park is too high and should be taken into account on how poor the car park is.

Our personal belongings were ‘taken ‘for from our room and the management just seemed to sweep it under the carpet, which was sad as we had enjoyed our stay in Cardiff.

Very spacious and comfortable room.

Very expensive breakfast. The room was next to the lift, last floor. Could hear the lift motor up and down all day and night from the room, hard to rest.

Location, size of the room.

Pillows were terrible. Our room had a great view but it overlooked a busy road with lots of traffic noise and sirens that kept us awake for the two nights we were there. Plumbing didn’t seem to be vented properly - when the people in the next room used their bathroom facilities it made a loud gurgling noise in our room. We should’ve complained but didn’t want the hassle of moving room. Room not vacuumed well - noticeable dust on the carpet around the skirtings and in the corners of the room, also crumbs on the floor between the two beds which we noticed when checking the room before departing. Noisy airconditioning at night so we had to turn it off and put up with the stuffiness. Also we were surprised at the different breakfast prices depending on what time it was booked. £16 seems expensive for breakfast.

Great location; fantastic spa therapists & treatment area; nice pool; well equipped gym; large bedrooms with good amenities; comfortable bar area; polite and courteous staff.

Jacuzzi wasn’t working and no one thought to mention it; sauna and steam rooms weren’t hot enough; some of the pool loungers were broken; restaurant lacked atmosphere and food was well presented but a bit basic for the price; tables in the bar area didn’t get cleared or cleaned.

The breakfast did not have much choice and considering you have to pay £10, should have been menu not buffet options

The state of the carpets was absolutely disgusting. I have pictures. The walls and windows were absolutely filthy. The duty manager’s explanation was that the carpets were worn. Hmm! For a 4* hotel, that is the explanation I get? They gave me 3 different rooms and the state of the carpets in each room was as bad as the previous ones. Says a lot.

The cleanliness of the place

The man that was working the restaurant on the 3rd was brilliant and absolutely amazing

The lady’s who was working in the restaurant took ages to give us a table and then took ages with our drinks, forgot our water and didunt know what they was doing

Rooms were spacious

Upon arrival the systems were down. Car park barrier was up so we went in. The car park was very narrow. Staff were all over the place. We booked two rooms but they were a few floors apart even though rooms next to us were vacant. The bed was done done properly and the mattress was very uncomfortable with springs digging in to me. The bathroom door lock was broken. The a.c. did not seem to be working. Calling room service was pointless they never picked up. When we came to leave we were told the car park costs £2.50 by the hour. This was not mentioned to us before. We were not told about the breakfast timings or where it will be served. When I questioned the receptionist she was very abrupt as if I asked an absurd question.
